New Orleans area students to participate in Pass, Rush, Read! Super Bowl Reading Challenge. Students in participating Recovery School District (RSD) schools started the New Year by pledging to take the Pass, Rush, Read Super Reading Challenge. In alignment with the National Education Association’s Read Across America campaign, an annual reading motivation and awareness program to celebrate reading, students from local RSD elementary, middle, charter and high schools will participate in Pass, Rush, Read.Pass, Rush, Read! is an initiative of Malin Public Relations that challenges students to read at least 30 minutes a day. This year’s challenge is a Super Bowl Edition and is presented in conjunction with The New Orleans Public Library System, the Recovery School District, The Usama Young Youth Foundation, OxFam America and The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation. Students will read 30 minutes for 30 days and log narratives in their Super Bowl Reading Playbook. Top winners will receive a prize package that includes a Nook Simple Reader.Pass, Rush, Read! will be commemorated through a school visit and book talk in an effort to motivate children to read and to celebrate their achievement. Classroom activities, a proclamation and discussions have also been planned. Students will take the reading challenge, compete in contests and games while tracking their progress. The school that logs the most reading hours will receive a reading pep rally with a crash course in Football 101 featuring a visit by current NFL players.
